Terms of Service

PromptBook is a terminal with a notebook attached. The Mac app is free and runs on your own machine. PromptBook Remote is a paid subscription that lets you reach a Mac you leave running from a browser or the iOS app.

These terms are the agreement between you and Tipasoft Inc. ("we", "us"), the company that makes PromptBook. By downloading the app or creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use PromptBook.

1. The Mac app

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to install and use the PromptBook Mac app on Macs you own or control, for personal or commercial work. The app is free and requires no account.

You may not resell or redistribute the app, remove or alter its notices, or attempt to defeat its licensing or update mechanisms. The app is signed and notarised by Apple; if you obtained a copy that is not, it did not come from us and we are not responsible for it.

2. Your account

An account is needed only for PromptBook Remote. You agree to give a real email address, to keep your password to yourself, and to accept responsibility for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access to it.

One account is for one person. Sharing credentials so several people can reach the same running Mac is not permitted; each person should have their own account.

3. PromptBook Remote and billing

• Remote costs $9 per month or $90 per year in US dollars, plus any tax that applies where you are.
• Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Your use of Stripe's checkout is also governed by Stripe's own terms.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
• You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves your access running to the end of the period you have already paid for.
• Except where the law requires otherwise, payments already made are not refunded for a partial period. If something goes wrong on our side, get in touch — we would rather sort it out than argue about it.
• We may change prices for future periods with at least 30 days' notice by email. The price you are already paying does not change mid-period.

Remote needs a Mac of yours left running and connected. The service relays a connection to that machine; it cannot reach a Mac that is asleep, offline, or has PromptBook closed. That is a property of the design, not a fault.

4. What you do with it

PromptBook runs real commands on your own computer. What you run, and what happens as a result, is your responsibility. You agree not to use PromptBook to break the law, to attack or disrupt other people's systems, to distribute malware, or to interfere with our relay — including by circumventing rate limits, probing for vulnerabilities without permission, or running automated traffic against the service.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used this way, or that is causing harm to the service or other users. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why first.

5. Your content stays yours

Your notes, files, commands, and everything your terminal prints belong to you. We claim no rights over them. When you use Remote, that content is relayed between your Mac and your browser or phone — it passes through our server in transit and is not stored there. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is and is not kept.

Because we do not store your work, we cannot recover it for you. Backing up your own machine remains your job.

6. Availability

We work to keep the service up, but we do not promise any particular uptime. Maintenance, outages, and the occasional bug will happen. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we retire the paid service altogether we will give reasonable notice and refund the unused portion of any prepaid period.

PromptBook is young software under active development. Some features may change or be removed as it matures.

7. Third parties

PromptBook depends on services we do not control: Stripe for payments, GitHub for hosting downloads and release notes, Apple for the iOS app and notarisation, and our hosting provider for running the relay. Their terms apply to their parts of the experience, and their outages can affect ours.

8. Ending it

You can stop using PromptBook at any time; delete the app and cancel any subscription from your account. You may ask us to delete your account and the data attached to it — see the Privacy Policy for how.

We may end this agreement if you materially breach these terms. Sections 5, 9, 10 and 12 survive the end of the agreement.

9. No warranty

PromptBook is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet your requirements. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only to the extent permitted.

10. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of your use of PromptBook — including damage caused by commands you run through it.

Our total liability for any claim relating to PromptBook is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or US$50. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, such as for fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will give notice by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use PromptBook after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, cancel and stop using the service.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Canada, without regard to their conflict-of-law rules. You and we submit to the jurisdiction of the Canadian courts for any dispute arising out of them — except where consumer protection law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your own country, which nothing here takes away.
